Stu:
John's set was out of this world, by far the best gig I've ever been to. He bought me to tears.
I was lucky enough to meet John 3 or 4 times over the weekend after that. I met him as he was going to see PJ Harvey, and I just thanked him for the amazing show, then after where I got a picture and he signed my copy of Niandra. I asked him how the new RHCP record is coming along and he said it's going great and his favourite so far (also, my friend met him later and he said there's lots of Hendrix-esque solos on it!).
I then met him again after James Chance and the Contortionists, and spoke to him about his project with John, Flea and Omar. He said they plan to release material, that they've recorded 3 tracks and also that they're trying to get the Frank Zappa drummer to play with them. I then spoke to him for a while about The Mars Volta and how amazing they are for a while, which was cool. He seemed really enthusiastic. I thanked him again for the music, and we shook hands, all the while my heart felt like it was going to explode!
Finally, I saw him side stage before he went to play with Sean Lennon, Vincent Gallo and Yoko Ono (which was fucking amazing). I didn't say anything, just smiled and gave him a thumbs up, and he smiled and waved back. I think he recognises me now LOL.
He was just how I imagined him to be, genuine, down to earth, and he has a lot of time for his fans. It was also great to see him looking so happy with his girlfriend, they seem really close. All in all it was just a great weekend, and I feel blessed to have witnessed his show, and for me to finally have met my hero.
